On Tuesday, May 29th Ottawa’s very first game conference was held at the Ottawa Convention Centre. With over 400 participants and 30 speakers (including BlackCherry’s John Seck), the first ever Ottawa Game Conference proved to be a huge success. It was a jam-packed day with lots of people to meet, presentations to listen to, discussions to participate in, food to eat, coffee to drink, umm….Okay. You get the picture.
Anyway, some highlights included compelling keynotes by Jason Della Rocca and Gabe Zicherman, excellent panel discussions with Ottawa-based developers and industry players, and an awesome after-party at Mercury Lounge in the Market. With so much to see and do, OGC2012 was a solid learning and networking opportunity for anyone interested in the video game industry.
The Ottawa Game Conference made it clear that there is huge potential for this city to continue growing its industry and become a top player in international markets. With the number of indie studios in this city and the amount of talent we produce and attract, it’s no wonder speakers like Della Rocca noted that there’s no reason why an Angry Birds can’t come out of Ottawa. There is no doubt that by next year’s conference this city’s video game industry will have made giant strides in its movement upwards on the international scene. We’re looking forward to being a part of that.
A big thanks to all OGC2012’s organizers. We at BlackCherry all had an awesome time and are looking forward to next year’s event.
